I don't know about you, but once I started photographing my outfits I have become a LOT more picky about what I will wear out of the house. I'm worried I'm becoming high maintenance! For example, last Saturday evening I was meeting up with some friends at a bar that hosts an awesome late night 50s dance party. I love to get dressed up for this event, but I don't like to take it too literally for fear of looking costumey. Here is what I tried on first:
Shirt: Vintage, thrifted
Skirt: Vintage, thrifted
Shoes: Vintage, etsy
Belt: Vintage, free
I really liked this outfit in theory and I still liked it once I photographed it, but something about the red shoes and bold shirt screamed "this is a little bit too much" at me. Or maybe I was just scared that I might actually look a bit ridiculous. So, I remixed it!
Shirt: downtown boutique
Skirt: Vintage, thrifted
Shoes: Ross
Belt: Vintage, free
This is what I actually wore out of the house. I like that the shoes match the shirt and the shirt matches the belt. Plus, I obviously love this skirt because it makes me feel like a 1980s tennis player, and I love feeling 80s preppy! Looking back on these photos, I actually like outfit number 1 the best, even though I ended up wearing outfit 2! Sometimes I think I tone it down for fear of looking silly, even though the original outfit probably looked best. Do you ever do that? Which outfit do you prefer?

I used to do that before I started photographing my outfits and following blogs...now I just go with my instincts:) Honestly, I love both outfits. You should wear what makes you feel good...and neither looks silly, they're both so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI like it both ways. And I think flats were the way to go with this.
ReplyDeleteI really like both ways, but I think the second one works maybe a bit better for the 50's dance party. I want to go to a 50's dance party. Sounds like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI love both the looks.
ReplyDeleteSounds like such a fun event!
you are SO adorable! i absolutely adore that first outfit. i'm really drawn to rainbow-y things, couldn't tell ya why! and on this whole twin note, would you be surprised that we share the same first name too!? talk about spooky! ^_^
ReplyDeleteI like the first outfit best, but I prefer the second pair of shoes!just to be difficult:-)
ReplyDeleteOhhh yeah... since I started blogging about my outfits I care so much more everyday! Will this outfit be blog-worthy? Haha... kinda silly but way fun :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway... I prefer the first outfit... the shoes complete the look and that plaid is just adorable.
