New Mexico!

Well, it looks live I've become about a once a week blogger! Whoops! I promise to (at least try to) get better once I get a bit more settled in. I've been busy with unpacking and decorating galore (and of course, working lots of 10 hour days out in the field)! I'm so excited to finally have a place to hang up all the art and photos that I love. I've had so many roommates for so long that I haven't gotten to every fully make a house my own. I'll have to share some photos with ya'll once I get things a bit more in order. For now, I just wanted to drop in to let ya'll know that I am REALLY enjoying New Mexico; from the people to the scenery, everything is really quite fabulous! I've been skiing every weekend and generally exploring the area. Just check it out for yourself:

On the Road (again)

Here is what Peter and I look like approximately 18 hours into a 25 hour cross-country move in scenic (ha!) western Oklahoma. Tomorrow I'll arrive at my new home in New Mexico on my 27th birthday, so I better get some sleep because I'm looking rough and I want to start this new adventure off right!

MLK weekend

For those of us here in the states, today was Martin Luther King day which (for those of us that have real jobs) means no work on Monday! In celebration, a few of my friends and I rented a cabin up in the mountains. It was by no means deluxe, but there was good company, a hot tub, and lovely scenery and thats really all a girl needs! Here are a few snaps I took (the last one is with my super exciting new lens- it makes night look like day).

Dress: Vintage, thrifted
Cardigan: Christmas gift from mom
Belt: Vintage, free
Leggings: Vera Wang for Kohl's
Boots: Groundhog shoes
Purse: Was a gift, bought from an Etsy seller but now I can't find her shop!
Scarf: New! from Analogue People

Can ya'll forgive me for wearing the same dress two outfits in a row? When I wore it on Tuesday, I only went to the store and to run some errands. I didn't see anyone I know in real life and I didn't feel like I really got to show off my dress, so I put it back on last night but made and effort to remix it for ya'll to make things a little bit more interesting! Of course, I kind of fell back into my safe space of wearing a cardigan and my boots. Oh, well, its warm and cozy and freezing here so I'll forgive myself! Plus, I got to show off a few of my favorite etsy accessories!

Oh, and P.S.- Thanks for all your super sweet comments on my last post! It really means a lot to me that ya'll like my photos!

Dress: Vintage, new to me!
Shirt: Banana Republic (ages ago)
Belt: Thrifted
Tights and Socks: Hue
Shoes: Dansko

Ok, I think I managed to layer a dress over a shirt without looking like Angela Chase circa 1995. I'm not totally sold on it... but I'm getting there! Yesterday, I hit a bit of a vintage jackpot, I found two 50s (I think) dresses at the thrift store that fit me like a charm. And, trust me, I don't come in a typically 50s size. Sometimes paying a visit to an out of the way thrift store is worth the extra gas money! This is one of them, but the other is even more awesome and I can't wait to wear it soon. Maybe, tomorrow (though it is a bit summery)! Also, this outfit begs the question "is it ok for a grown ass woman to wear socks over tights but not under boots?". Whatevs, it was cozy and I am so over zipping up those damn boots every day! I needed a break!

1.4.09- First Remix of the New Year!

Shirt: Gap, altered by me
Cardigan: Christmas gift from Mom
Skirt: Dress worn as skirt, Ross
Leggings: Vera Wang for Kohl's
Socks: Hue, Christmas gift from Mom
Boots: Groundhog shoes
Scarf: Ross

So this morning, I was determined to do something a little bit different. I wanted to layer a shirt with a dress like all the (other) cool fashion bloggers! Well, once I started trying out different combos I couldn't escape the feeling that I looked a little like Angela Chase circa the 1995. You know, she was always layering shirts and tank tops and dresses. And, then I started saying things like " I am so over Jordon Catalano" and I realized that no one needed to relive the 90s, even if My So called Life was so totally awesome. Anyone else with me, here? Anyways, I decided that instead of layering this dress over a t-shirt as a dress, I could make it into a skirt! What a great way to refashion my wardrobe, especially since I have a ton of dresses but not very many skirts.

I think one of my promises to myself for the New Year (ok, ok, I'll admit that it is kind of a resolution) will be to get more creative with my wardrobe and try to wear old things in new and exciting ways so that they don't get shoved to the back of my closet. What about ya'll, do you have any fashion resolutions?

12.30.09

Ok, I'm baaackkkk! Sorry for that unintended holiday blogging break! Things just sort of got away from me there for a while, what with all the festivities. I'm going to hit all this digital stuff hard soon, but tomorrow I'm going to Nashville for some celebrations so I'll catch ya'll in the New Year! Have the hap-hap-happiest New Years of all!

Now, onto the main attraction... sporting some of my holiday loot!

First Snow of the Year

Well, today we had the first snow of the year. By tomorrow, people will probably start referring to it as the "Blizzard of '09". I live in the mountains, but Asheville is still the south and we only get one to two inches of real snow each year. Well, I would say we have already gotten almost a foot today!

Here is what it looked like this morning when I woke up:

Finally, for your viewing pleasure, a gratuitous photo of Petey modeling the sweater that I (very poorly) knit for him. He HATES the snow.

Dress: Dorothy Perkins
Cardi: Gift, Gap
Slip: Vintage, thrifted
Leggings: Vera Wang for Kohl's
Boots: Groundhog shoes
Purse: Vera Bradley
Bracelet: Gift

So, I ordered this dress and another from Dorothy Perkins because I wanted more jersey dresses to wear with my new boots (of course). Well, I love the other one and I've already worn it a few times, but haven't managed to get a photo of it for some reason. I was on the fence about this one, though now that I see the photo I'm not sure why. I felt like the color was a little bit off (too young, maybe?) and I definitely thought it was too short, even to wear over leggings! Of course, that's probably just me being paranoid, but whatever. Well, yesterday, I finally figured out how to Megan-ize it and now I love it! All it needed was this slip that I just thrifted as an "under skirt" to lengthen it and make it a little more exciting. I like the idea of layering skirts under dresses, I've done it quite a few times and I think it adds a lot more interest to the outfit, but I'm not sure I should do it with a slip. I'm always paranoid that it looks like I don't know that my slip is hanging out unintentionally! Maybe if I dyed it, it would look less slip like and more like its part of the dress.

What do ya'll think about slip/ under- skirts/ or otherwise layering clothing that isn't necessarily meant to be layered? Do you do it?

11.4.09

Last Friday, I was the outfit inspiration on Kimberly of Fab Finds Under 50's Inspiration Calendar. The outfit that I submitted to Kimberly for inspiration was a gray and brown mix that I wore a few weeks ago. I wanted to remix gray and brown in a totally new way and try to NOT wear my boots, since I have been wearing them so frequently recently. Here is what I came up with:

shoes

Dress: ??
Cardigan: Ross
Belt: from a "free store"
Shoes: Born Crown from Ross
Purse: Gift, Vera Bradley

Unfortunately it was much windier (as you can see from my hair!) and colder than I expected, so I had to go put some leggings on before I left the house. Oooooh, also I finally got to show ya'll my new fav shoes. They are super comfortable and so well made- but I got them at Ross for $30! I love a deal!

11.29.09

Still catching up on Texas photos- this is the last batch (I think). On Monday, I went thrifting and antiquing in downtown McKinney, TX. I was on a MISSION for a vintage dress form. I finally realized that there wasn't a chance in hell that I was going to find one in Asheville after searching high and low, but I know that if you want something and you can't find it in Dallas, TX, it probably doesn't exisit. They have everything (and more) there. Here is what I wore:

112909border

Dress: ??, remixed many times
Sweater: From high school! Abercrombie (ha)
Leggings: Vera Wang for Kohl's
Boots: Goundhog Shoes
Scarf: Gift, from my sister from Ecuador
Bag: Gift from a friend, Vera Bradley

I found the dress form of my dreams, and for a steal of a Texas deal, but I had to ship it to myself so I don't have a photo of it to share. It will be here soon and I'll be updating all my shop photos to show Millie (as I have fondly named her). Instead, I have some scenic architectural vistas to share with ya'll.

Just Arrived...

... home from a LONG day of traveling! I'm totally exhausted so I'm heading off to bed, but I thought I would throw up a few more Texas photos. After all, nothing says Texas like horses!
