So... I don't know if ya'll have heard about Market Publique yet, but it's a fairly new online marketplace just for all things vintage! How exciting! Thanks to Jess of What I Wore for talking about it so incessantly that I just had to go check it out- because it looks like it's going to grow into a great place to go to for all vintage all the time. Also, they claim to be maintaining high standards for their sellers so that buyers won't have to sort through the riff-raff like on Etsy or Ebay. However- they let me register as a seller so their standards must not be that high! Kidding, kidding, I think my stuff is awesome!

Anyway, I just got my first listing up there as a trial run. Hopefully it goes well because I really like their easy to use format and classy layout! And, its easy to get on the front page, all you have to do is list something. Here I am:

Anyways, I'm off to the beach for the weekend two of my favorite people ever, Wren and Shawn, so I'll be back with photos on Sunday! Have a lovely weekend!

Happy Summer (Solstice)!

Ok, so I know the solstice isn't technically until tomorrow, but we are celebrating today! Plus, I just wanted a chance to complain about how the hottest day of the year is also the (second) longest day of the year. What an unfortunate coincidence for us Ashevillians. There is a high of 92 today- some of you may not think thats too bad, but let me remind you that we don't have a little thing called air conditioning here in the mountains. Man, I'm burning up!

In celebration, I listed two lovely new summer dresses at Green Violet Vintage.

And, lest I forget about my friends on the other side of the old equator, I'm also listing this fabulous wool cape!

Sale! Sale! Sale!

Ok, I love a sale. Seriously. I doesn't matter if it's the crappiest crap that I've ever seen, if it's on sale I will probably have to be physically restrained to keep from purchasing it. I've been thinking about having a permanent sale section at Green Violet Vintage for a while now, but wanted to get a few sales under my belt first. Well, the time is here! I just set up a sale section- check it out! I'm going to try to keep 8-10 items in there at all times and make sure that I have a variety of sizes available to keep everyone happy (don't you just hate it when the plus sized stuff never goes on sale- or is that just me?)! Here are some fun things you can find there right now:

Make my Monday

Instead of the traditional Make my Monday list, I'm just going to share five photos that are making my Monday. 'Cause I'm lazy like that. And, 'cause every Monday needs a little Petey.

Oh, bonus Make my Monday thought! Today I discovered Pioneer Woman. Ok, ok, I'm sure I'm the last person on the planet to add this to her blog roll. Don't laugh! But just in case you are as out of the interwebs loop as I am, you must check out her site. She has all sorts of amazing photoshop tutorials that were written for photoshop dummies like myself. I can't wait to have 3 free seconds (or days) in which to try and figure these all out!

So, anyways, what's making your Monday?

Weekend Update

Well, it's been a great weekend so far. Yesterday a bunch of friends and I went canoing on the Tuckasseegee River and it was AMAZING. Best river ever. Oh, and I fixed my camera! I feel like an electronic genius (even though all I did was clean out the lens cover thingy).

Wren and Jason run some rapid.

Jason jumps off a rock.

Rich jumps off a rock, extra style points for holding his nose and his hat.

Now I'm cleaning like a mad woman and trying to get my Etsy stash under control. I have so many vintage clothes now that they are bursting out of every corner of my house. Anyone out there have any organization suggestions?

Things I want...

Like, really, really want! I've been looking for formal dresses on Etsy, to no avail. But here are a few other things that I suddenly feel like I need to buy immediately or I won't make it through the day. I think it will be better for all of us if I just post them on my blog and try to keep the money in my pocket.

Yart Sale!

I am participating in the 2nd annual Etsy Yart Sale!

What exactly is a “Yart Sale,” you may ask? The term Yart is an artistic spin on the traditional yard sale:

Art + Yard Sale = Yart!

Awesome! All items in Green Violet Vintage titled "YART" are marked down 25%, I hope you find something you love that is on sale! I will keep at least 10 items on sale until the 14th, so if something from the sale sells, I'll add another item. Check back all week! And, don't forget to check for other sellers on Etsy that are also having Yart Sales.

Sad Day...

So, you may have noticed the lack of new photos in my posts recently. Sadly, my camera is broken (the beach killed it)! I think it is easily fixable, I just need to research the proper venues through which to get it fixed. I had to beg, steal, and borrow a camera for the photo shoot on Sunday! I really hope this fixing doesn't cost a fortune.

I enjoy sharing photos and I love to read photo filled blogs, so I have been sad that I don't have any to share with ya'll. However, yesterday I sent a dress off to Madrid, and that got me thinking about my vacation to Spain a few years ago and what an amazing place it is! So, I figured I could share some old photos of Spain with you to hold you over until I get around to getting the camera fixed.

My sister was studying abroad and the whole fam went to meet her after her studies were done. We went to Madrid, Barcelona, Gibraltar, Rhonda, and a few stops in, around, and in between those places. I have to say, I love Spain! They sleep in every morning, drink until very late in the evening, and take their siestas very seriously! It's fun to send dresses off to unknown lands, like Norway or Australia, but I especially love it when I send a dress off to a place where I can imagine it wondering through the plazas and sipping wine in cafes.

Cityscape, Madrid

Roman Aqueducts, Segovia

The Rock, Gibraltar (actually a territory of Great Britain)

White Hill Country and Gorge, Rhonda

The Alhambra, Granada

Gaudi's Park Guell, Barcelona

Photo Shoot, take 3

Today some of my lovely friends helped me out with my third Green Violet Vintage photo shoot. Here is just a small preview of the fun that is to come!

Did ya'll even know about all the awesome stuff that you can do with Picassa? Like how I made that collage in 5 minutes after struggling with Photoshop for about an hour? Picassa is like Photoshop light- or maybe just Photoshop for dummies. Now, off to bed because tomorrow I get to be a farmer!

Gift Giving

Thanks to the great suggestions ya'll gave to me about that dress! I'm thinking of trying out a few of them (nothing to lose, right?) and if its a total bust just buying something. I've got a few seamstresses on Etsy I'm eying for a possible custom order, but if any of ya'll have worked with anyone before on a custom order that you would recommend, or do custom orders yourself, give me a holler! I'm very excited about the prospect of a custom dress and supporting a fellow Etsy-er!

Speaking of Etsy, this brings me to the actual purpose of my post. A close friend had very unexpected surgery last week. While the surgery went well (what a relief!), she has a long hospital stay ahead of her and then probably a long home recovery full of physical therapy. I want to send her something lovely to brighten her day. My friend is a very down to earth, outdoorsy, nature loving, warm and homey kind of girl. Here are a few things I've been thinking about...

I love this "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams Print" from The Black Apple. I think its very comforting, but I'm not sure if people decorate their hospital rooms (I know I would!)

While perusing The Black Apple, I also noticed these notebooks. Maybe it would be better to send her a little something she could actually use to doodle or keep notes in?

I haven't had many friends in the hospital, and none under these circumstances, so I'm turning to ya'll for advice. Has anyone had a long hospital stay? What made things easier for you? What would you have liked to recieve? Do you have your eye on anything on Etsy that would just be perfect? Maybe I should stick with flowers... or a plant?

Help me, Internets!

Ok, so I've been invited to a super fancy black-tie optional wedding this summer. Although I have a few more black-tie optional outfits in my closet than you probably expect), I've already worn most of them to an event with the same group of people that will be at this wedding. Not one to be wasteful (especially with something I spent over $200 on), I'm hoping to up-cycle this bridesmaid dress that's been sitting in my closet for 2 years since my lovely friend Elizabeth's wedding. I just hate to only use something once, but this is in a color that kind of screams "bridesmaid" at you loud and clearly so I haven't had a chance to reuse it in its current state. The obvious solution- alter it! I'm not genius at altering or embellishing and creativity isn't my strongest suit, so I'm hoping some of ya'll can help me out with suggestions. I'm super pumped about this eco-friendly black-tie project. Those don't come along too often!

As you can see, the color probably needs to be changed. But how well will overdying work for something like this? What would my color options be? Does anyone have an experience with that? The dress is floor length so I think I'll hem it to around knee length. Maybe the neckline could also be altered? Also, I would like to dress it up and make it a little unique with some sort of embellishment. Any suggestions?

What's your damage?

Ok, so apparently they are remaking the greatest dark comedy meets romantic comedy of all time, The Heathers. Could I be more excited? I think not!!

So, what's YOUR damage, Heather?
